Meet Dr. Birth, A Passionate Orthodontist with Decades of Experience
For over 35 years, Dr. Sheila Birth has been providing outstanding orthodontic care to patients in Tarrant and Johnson Counties. Dr. Birth first opened the practice in 1986 with the original location in southwest Fort Worth. Thanks to her success, she was able to branch out to Arlington and, later, to Keller and Burleson.
Dr. Birth wants every smile to be the best of the best, and she treats each case as if it were a practice benchmark. For her, orthodontics is about more than just straightening teeth. She also offers treatment for TMJ Disorder, chronic headaches, and sleep apnea.
About Dr. Birth
Dr. Birth chose orthodontics because she likes to improve patients’ lives by noticeably enhancing their smiles. Though she has been in practice for decades, she still finds each day at Orthodontics by Birth & Fletcher interesting. In particular, she loves seeing how new technology has revolutionized the field. She is committed to staying up-to-date with the latest diagnostic tools and treatment techniques.
When she is not at work, Dr. Birth loves to stay active by traveling, golf, tennis, scuba diving, and snow skiing. But, of course, her favorite activity is to spend time with her husband, Jim, and her two children, Brandon and Brett.
Education and Associations
Dr. Birth received her bachelor’s degree from West Texas State University. She then pursued her Doctorate of Dental Surgery at Baylor College of Dentistry and obtained a master’s degree in orthodontics from the University of Oklahoma.

Sleep Apnea Treatment
A profound personal experience cemented Dr. Birth’s love for orthodontics. As a child, her son suffered from sleep apnea. But after he received an oral appliance, he slept better, stopped bedwetting, and even did better in school! Because of this episode, Dr. Birth is committed to providing the same life-changing treatments for her patients.
Patients with sleep apnea are often relieved to know that treatment can be as simple as wearing a custom mouthpiece while they sleep. Oral appliances realign the jaw to tighten the throat and soft palate. This opens the airways and ensures normal breathing.
Dr. Birth uses 3-D X-rays to analyze jaw structure and alignment. These detailed images, paired with our digital impressions, mean that our oral appliances are highly effective. They are also quite comfortable, and most people adjust to them in just a few nights. Dr. Birth takes great joy in seeing this treatment's incredible impact on her patients’ lives.
