Dr. Cristi Fletcher chose to specialize in orthodontics because she saw the enormous impact her own orthodontist had on her life. As an adolescent, her orthodontic care made her more outgoing and fun. She no longer tried to stifle her grin or conceal it behind her hand. And, in turn, her ready and open smile changed the way that people perceived her. Dr. Fletcher wants to provide the same life-changing treatment for her own patients, helping their true personalities to shine.

She also loves being able to establish a longer-lasting relationship with her patients. And it is rewarding to see patients feeling more confident about the treatment itself as they learn how comfortable and non-stressful it can be!

About Dr. Fletcher

Originally from California, Dr. Fletcher attended college in Washington, D.C., where she met her husband. After dental school in Nashville, she returned to D.C. for her residency. It was then that she met Dr. Birth, who offered her the opportunity to work for her in Texas. Dr. Fletcher was thrilled by the chance to work for such an experienced orthodontist on the cutting edge of the field. She moved to Texas in 2005 and has never looked back!

Dr. Fletcher is now a partner at the practice, and she considers Dr. Birth and the other team members to be family. She wants her patients to feel like members of that family, treating them in the way she would want to be treated. She gets to know them personally, learning about their lives, as well as asking how she can improve their level of care.

Dr. Fletcher and her husband have two children. Outside the office, she enjoys traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Orthodontia for All Ages

Orthodontics is often associated with the teenage years. But while we do see many teens and adolescents, we treat patients of all ages at Orthodontics by Birth & Fletcher.

When needed, we can perform phased orthodontia, beginning Phase 1 between the ages of 7 and 10. It is at this stage that children lose their baby teeth, and we can evaluate their jaw structure to determine whether they have enough room for the incoming adult teeth. Expanders, other oral appliances, and, sometimes, braces can create enough space and reduce crowding of permanent teeth. Phase 2 treatment addresses any problems with the permanent teeth, and it usually includes braces. By offering treatment in two stages, we can prevent more severe orthodontic issues and reduce the amount of time that a child needs to wear braces.

Adults also benefit from orthodontics. Braces, Invisalign®, and other treatments can improve their appearance and self-esteem. Orthodontia can also treat health concerns, such as chronic headaches or TMJ Disorder, which are often related to dental alignment. And oral appliances can allow sleep apnea patients to enjoy a better night’s rest, as well as overall improved health.

State-of-the-Art Treatment for TMJ, Chronic Headaches, and Facial Pain

As part of her commitment to cutting-edge care, Dr. Fletcher and her team are proud to offer TruDenta®, a multifaceted treatment system customized for each patient. Diagnostic technology allows Dr. Fletcher to evaluate the nerves and ligaments in the jaw and surrounding areas. TruDenta® combines photobiomodulation therapy, ultrasound treatment, trigger point manipulation, and microcurrent stimulation. Patients typically need between one and twelve-hour-long treatment sessions, depending on their symptoms. TruDenta® does not require any injections and, most importantly, it is effective!

Of course, Dr. Fletcher will also determine whether traditional orthodontic treatment is necessary. Many times, TMJ Disorder and headaches are related to improper bite imbalance. Braces or Invisalign® can shift teeth to ensure that the force of the bite falls evenly across all of the teeth. This can drastically reduce strain and inflammation.

Pain-Free Orthodontic Care

Dr. Fletcher wants every patient’s experience to be positive. Sometimes, patients can suffer some discomfort and sensitivity as they adjust to orthodontic treatment or when they have their braces tightened. That is why she and her team are proud to use the Synapse Dental Pain Eraser. This small, handheld tool blocks nerve signals in the affected area in as little as 20 to 30 seconds. There is no need for anesthesia or injections. If they wish, patients can even purchase a device to take home with them!
